In honor of the Day of Russian Science, which is celebrated on February 8, we tell you about paper-mill workers with academic degrees.
Evgeny Vedernikov, Head of Forest Management Department, and Veniamin Zalesov, Deputy Head of Forest Management Department, have been working in this department for 15 years:— We work as a team. We started working together, and we are growing professionally together.
Together, they became candidates of agricultural sciences, one year apart. Veniamin Nikolaevich defended his dissertation in 2019, and Evgeny Aleksandrovich in 2020. Of course, each conducted research on their own topic, but the common goal is one — the development of new environmentally friendly methods of forest management that allow for the maximum preservation of forest resources for future generations.
— In our daily work, there are many acute issues that arise between forest industry enterprises and government bodies. Sometimes it is quite difficult to resolve them. Science comes to the rescue. It is a kind of arbitrator, independent and competent, — explains Evgeny Aleksandrovich. — Scientific work gives a professional assessment of any processes and helps resolve many disputes.
According to the paper scientists, on-the-job training only contributed to the research. Forest areas leased by Solikamskbumprom were used for the developments. Today, the scientific developments of colleagues have formed the basis of the regulatory framework used by timber industry workers in the Perm Krai.
Currently, Evgeny Alexandrovich and Veniamin Nikolaevich, alongside colleagues from the Department of Strategic Development, are working on a new research project focused on intensifying forestry practices. Its successful implementation will make it possible to increase the yield of harvested wood per hectare at a lower cost in the future. This radically changes the approach to the process of harvesting raw materials for paper production. If now it is necessary to move further into the forest area to harvest wood, then according to the authors, the new project will allow using areas as close as possible to processing points.
— Obtaining an academic degree is an achievement that expands personal opportunities and professional boundaries, — Veniamin Nikolaevich believes. — Today we can speak the same language as representatives of the scientific community of the Perm Krai and other regions. However, all our scientific and research work is aimed at one thing - the prosperity of our common home, our native enterprise.
